How To Train Your Dragon: Ireth and Vespera Fable

Our fable begins with a young 18 year old viking girl that goes by the name Ireth Netherland. Who isn't a fighter but an apothecary and alchemist and has a natural curiosity that seems to get her into trouble in more ways than one. Viewed as the outcast of the whole tribe, Ireth must under go a now ten year tradition of claiming a dragon companion of her own again after failing it for 2 years and this is her last chance. Having experienced many bad moments with dragons Ireth has developed a fear of most of the dragon species. Distraught and worried that she would be kicked out of the tribe, Ireth goes out into the woods after failing the test a third time to allow her some comfort in her own mind. There she meets something unexpected that would make her life either easier or deeper into despair. How To Train Your Dragon is owned by Cressida Cowell and Dreamworks.

That's sad news. but understandable. The story of the Movie series has really taken quite the leap away from your story.

Nashew, September 30th, 2019, 8:53 pm

Aw man, another one bites the dust. But hey, it's completely understandable. Best of luck on all of your future projects~

MoogleSam, September 30th, 2019, 9:28 pm

Perfectly understandable. Thanks for letting us know.

This made me legit cry, I can never find any HTTYD fan comics...

Dragolia Animations (Guest), October 3rd, 2019, 10:03 pm

There's still a chance

@Koal: That wont be true for long, i am working on one that might make sense with the the timeline of the third film and might lighten things up! make sure to look at my channel tho it may not be much! this is the link:

I would love to see Moonfire going. It's a great story, indeed.

Bealoreas, October 1st, 2019, 6:09 pm

While I am saddened to hear that this lovely story is ending. I will have to take a look at your MoonFire. Your artwork is just beautiful!

dracone, October 1st, 2019, 8:09 pm

Understood, do you have any plans for a new series? I really enjoy your storytelling ability and art style

yamilink, October 2nd, 2019, 10:33 am

@dracone: A new series of HTTYD? No. A different story altogether? Yes!
As I have stated, I will be working on my Moonfire comic which is my personal project and original story. I have posted links to that comic in my Author's comment.

Dragolia Animations (Guest), October 3rd, 2019, 10:06 pm

Don't jump to conclussions

@yamilink: There might still be a chance and this might be an inspiration for a new HTTYD series that you might like to see! ill be posting them on youtube so make sure to check out this link!:

I hated the third movie. I spat on the series that existed before it. Instead of being about how diversity, understanding and cooperation made for a better world, it was a movie that went the path of segregation.
Without dragons, it felt wrong that the Berkians could survive in their new home. An island where they needed to lift their supplies up a huge cliff and their enemies had an armada parked at their port does not lend itself to such. Or did they kill all their enemies..? Then why segregate at all?

That movie was just... wrong.

Guest, October 2nd, 2019, 10:49 pm

@Miyto: you obviously didn't get the point of the move, the point was that greed is bad (like when Valka says that violence or something like that will always follow greedy humans it turns out that doesn't just apply to the warlords or Grimmel, it also applies to hiccup), and hiccup was being sort of bering greedy for his perfect world where humans and dragons live alongside each other in peace (which brings up the point that while Grimmel is the bad guy he's not the main villain, the main villain is the part of hiccup that refuses to give up toothless, the dragons, and the idea of his perfect world, that gets them into this situation, and Grimmel is just supposed to be the final lesson for hiccup who has denied that the idea of his perfect world could fail, that it could fail, or even possibly be what was not meant to be), that he doesn't consider the possibility that they might just not be meant to live alongside humans in peace, and if you fail to understand this, and instead make this about segregation (also it's not even segregation, they're not pushing the dragons away, they're letting them go to where they're meant to be, where they, especially toothless, most likely want to be) then you are more dense than a milkshake that no matter how hard you suck just won't go through the straw

Miyto (Guest), October 3rd, 2019, 1:00 am

@Guest: Ok, if only Toothless left Berk, I could agree with the idea that it was about greed and and freedom to choose instead of a forced segregation of all dragons away from humans.

Most of the dragons in Berk can not go against an order from their alpha (toothless), and they were in fact living well enough before Berk was overpopulated. And they were even happy after the main problem with overpopulation was living quarters and attracting too many enemies to be able to protect such a poorly fortified port.
If they had expanded into two or three unclaimed islands and made a properly guarded defensive line, the problems of the "perfect world" would all be defeated. Instead, Hiccup forced toothless to leave his home behind, after the lightwing had become ok with the idea of living with humans. The segregation that happened at the end of the movie would not have fixed Berk's overpopulation problems, moving to a bigger island however did fix that. The enemies the Berkians had? They either had to have murdered *all* of that armada, or they would have been trapped on an island where boats have to have supplies lifted up after fishing for food. It is a *huge* plothole that Hiccup was alive at all years later for the final scenes. Unless the mass murder of rival viking clans is forgiven for throwing away your war potential (dragons)? Hiccup and the Berkians either would have starved while surrounded by enemies, or had to have somehow murdered all their enemies (without the aid of dragons) which gets rid of the point of letting the dragons go. If they could protect the dragons, if they could hunt enough food, and they had a large enough island to fit everyone; why was a "perfect world of coexistence" "too greedy"? And if letting the dragons go couldn't get rid of their problems, it was the wrong move. It stole the freedom of all the dragons to choose whether or not to stay with their human partners/family, and it didn't even fix a single problem that wasn't on the cusp of being solved without such a huge sacrifice.

I am sorry you forgot that Berk's problems weren't so small that throwing away dragons would magically fix them. But all the problems Berk had, they were addressed within the movie itself, except one problem: did they kill all their enemies, or just scare them off with the military might of their dragons? Either way you answer that question forcing all the dragons to leave is a bad choice. Toothless did not need to force all the dragons to leave with him, that act was willful segregation without good cause.

Guest, October 4th, 2019, 12:18 am

@Miyto: I do also agree with you on some points, there is an easy solution to berks overpopulation and exposure problem and it is expansion but for some reason they don't do this but that's not what we're talking about here we are talking about the message of the movie, and I did not forget the size of berks problems but do you understand that moving to the bigger island didn't solve it, they had a small fraction of what they had on Berk as Grimmel says "they've abandoned they're only defensible position, running scared with what LITTLE they can carry" I'm going to estimate the size of the dragon flock at at least 2000 maybe up to 5000 if the side of the Berk we don't get shown was inhabited with them or even 7000 if the structures there are equally as tall as the rest, do you realize how much a dragon would eat, do you know how much energy it would take to fly and maintain the ability to literally shoot fire or other things out of your mouth (and larger dragons like the crimson goregutter, at least I think that's its name would take about 10 times that at least), now times that by 2000-5000 and possibly even 7000 depending on how high those structures were, also it's not about solving berks problems it's about peace, this defensive line you speak of would still lead to dragon and human deaths via attempts to break through the line, or even possible incursions through it, hiccups perfect world isn't dragons living alongside humans, it's dragons living alongside humans in PEACE, and once more the dragons had a choice and chose to leave they were not pushed away, they began to understand as hiccup began to, that it would be better and safer for them to go

Koal, October 3rd, 2019, 8:21 pm

@Miyto: The message was that if Vikings tried to remain living in peace with dragons, it would keep drawing slayers, hunters, poachers, etc, no matter how many of them they get rid of, thus putting both dragon and viking in danger. By having the dragons hidden in the new world, they'll have no reason to go after the viking. With no dragon activity, the bad people will stop hunting them, believing they are truly gone from the world and soon give up. No, killing them all will just make hiccup and friends just as equally bad s them.

Guest, October 4th, 2019, 12:00 am

@Koal: that's what I was saying

Miyto (Guest), October 4th, 2019, 12:23 am

@Koal: You are completely ignoring the Clan based grudges that Hiccup earned for Massacring whole armada's of all the surrounding clans. The killing of rival clan chiefs would not be forgotten nor forgiven by their heirs. The dragons don't matter in the politics of revenge, except for the firepower they represent.

edit. Hiccup had murdered a lot of clan leaders, they even shown one of their heir's declaring they would kill Hiccup for the honor of their clan.

Koal, October 4th, 2019, 9:49 am

@Miyto: ...Hiccup didn't murder anyone. There's a difference between killing in cold blood and killing in self defense.

Guest, October 4th, 2019, 11:10 am

@Koal: exactly!

Miyto (Guest), October 4th, 2019, 1:35 pm

@Koal: That difference doesn't matter if no one but you witnessed the fight and the son of the one you killed swears vengeance upon you. Hiccup made enemies that hate HIM, not just his love of dragons

Guest, October 5th, 2019, 8:13 pm

@Miyto: yes but that's not the reason these people are attacking them, it's because they want their dragons

Guest, October 2nd, 2019, 10:39 pm

Although I would've really liked to have seen this chapter finished before the comic inevitably bit the dust (I had a feeling it would after the 3rd movie came out although I desperately wanted that feeling to be wrong, I usually have a pretty good knack for predicting things) I respect your descision to end it and I understand that you like to think of your comic as as an expansion rather than an AU although I always thought of it as the latter, and while I am sad that it's ending, I respect your decision to end it and your reasons for doing so, I would just like to thank you for all of the effort you put into this absolutely beautiful and stunning comic both story-wise and art-wise, I'm actually considering possibly making an AU HTTYD (with some probably unexpected elements and twists) web-comic of my own (once I get better at art if that's even possible for me to do, and if I can it probably won't happen for a very long time) and once again, I would just like to thank you for everything you put into this comic

ShadowHoundour, October 4th, 2019, 11:01 pm

as sad as it is that you are not continuing this... i completely understand. i am upset that this is canceled because this is like the only good HTTYD comic that i know to see this canned is....upsetting. however, i also am looking forward to more Moonfire because i had read and followed that comic years ago, but didn't know that you were the one who also made that. i hope you take care of yourself and it was a nice comic run while it lasted.

JerryRiggings, October 7th, 2019, 9:45 pm

I'm gonna miss you

I love your art and I love this story. I wish you could continue but I feel why you can't. It sucks when you can't warp your brain into making it a AU instead since I hated the way the books ended and wanted to see the story continue beautifully through your eyes. I look forward to seeing other work from you and hope your other stories contain just as much depth, beauty and character as you have shown here. Good luck, and know we love your writing.

JerryRiggings, October 7th, 2019, 10:27 pm

@JerryRiggings: Also just finished reading through your MoonFire. It is bomb. But also hasn't been updated since 2016 so I am sad

HTTYDObsessedFanGirl (Guest), October 13th, 2019, 1:43 pm

I completely understand why you feel you cannot continue. I would like to request that if you feel you can, to post ideas you may have had for the rest of the comic before HTTYD 3 came out. I really want to have an idea what happened to Ireth and Vespera and I am sure many other fans would too. BTW I checked out MoonFire and it is AWESOME! Your artwork is amazing!

just call me HTTYDObsessedFanGirl

HTTYDObsessedFanGirl (Guest), October 13th, 2019, 4:17 pm

I just found out they are making a How to Train Your Dragon Homecoming!!!

I believe after reading the summary it may be possible for the story of Ireth and Vespera to continue. It may also not be possible depending on how it ends. Either way the decision would entirely be up to Yamilink.

BTW ~ The film is only a half hour long, it comes on TV on Dec. 3rd at 8:30pm on NBC, and you can preorder the DVD on Amazon

this may be a better video:

HTTYDObsessedFanGirl (Guest), October 14th, 2019, 6:01 pm

I would like to know how we can access the summaries of the rest of chapter 2 and future chapters.

yamilink, October 23rd, 2019, 12:42 pm

@HTTYDObsessedFanGirl: Patience please, I am writing them out and I will certainly make another update to give you all access to the summaries once it is complete.

Thank you.
